Belgian Blue Stone - block natural stone - Blue limestone from Belgium

Blocks for sawing

Les Carrières de la Pierre Bleue Belge sells blocks of blue stone – Petit Granit – in Belgium but also abroad. The extracted blocks have the following practical dimensions:

  • Length: from 1.50 m to 4 m
  • Width: from 0.70 m to 2 m
  • Thickness: from 0.50 m to 2 m

The blocks are mainly intended for stonemasons, finishing and marble workshops. The blocks are mainly sawn on our own sites to ensure the optimal selection of the material.

Decorative blocks

Unlike blocks intended for sawing, decorative blocks have very irregular contours, carved out by nature about 340 million years ago. These blocks are often large in size (on average: 2.50 x 2 x 1.50 m). Often, their surface is still covered with soil and sediment, as well as a number of fossils of very different shapes and sizes.

We mainly sell these blocks to contractors, garden contractors, architects or landscape designers and are happy to provide a quote for any additional work on the blocks. In view of the density of  Blue Stone (2689 kg/m³), its transport and installation need to be carefully prepared in advance.

Rough sawn slabs

Rough sawn slabs

The slabs are sawn using multi-blade cutting machines. The diamond-edged blades are mounted in a frame that moves back and forth.

The rough sawn slabs have a smooth surface. The sawing process can leave traces on the surface of these slabs in the form of small ripples or recesses about 1 mm in depth, parallel to and in the direction of sawing or slightly rippled. The stone is light grey in colour with slight shade variations distributed randomly over the entire surface. Different qualities are available: standard grade, 3rd grade (sold by weight), 4th grade, stone scraps (sold by weight).

The usual dimensions of the slabs vary:

  • Length: between 1.50 and 3.80 m
  • Width: between 1 and 2 m
  • Thickness:
    •  2/3/4/5/6/8/10/12/15/16/18/20 cm
    • 22/24/25/28/30/35/40 cm

Crusted slabs

Crusted slabs

Crusted slabs have their own unique character in that one side has a sawn surface and the other side a very varied and irregular relief, shaped by nature. The crusted slabs are usually about 10 cm thick (usually 5 to 15 cm). Crusted slabs can be ordered to measure or in standard sizes. Due to its nature, the dimensions of the crusted slabs are random, it is difficult to obtain determined and precise measurements, especially in large format.

Crusted slabs are very popular for their decorative quality in park and garden landscaping projects. Naturally, the crusted appearance highlights the raw material.
